Organic Silk Zafu Cushions

Organic Silk Zafu Pillows:
Our organic and vegan friendly meditation cushion is made of a AHIMSA (Peace Silk) cover in colored with organic vegetable dyes. The Zafu is lined with organic muslin cotton and filled with organic buckwheat hulls, which gently conform to your body's shape. The carry handle has a beautiful lotus label and Om jewel.

Peace silk is animal friendly because the silkworm is not killed in the production of the silk. It is allowed to complete its life cycle, whereby it burrows through its cocoon and breaks the silk fibers into smaller pieces. As a result, the weaving process of peace silk is done with shorter, non-continuous fibers. Thus, the beautiful texture of peace silk is created by weaving the shorter threads, giving it its 'knottier' feel.

The silk is made on a handloom by a women's cooperative in central India. Close to five hundred women and their families are supported by the production of this fabric. All of the fabric complies with "Fair Trade" standards, which means that the artisans producing it are making a fair living wage and can support their families on that wage.
